Today is a bittersweet day in our household for many reasons. The ongoing saga that we are currently working through with TC. The news that Canada lost another six young people in the ongoing war in Afghanistan (all of whom where to return at month end, now will return earlier - dead). The feeling of emptiness as we remember our friend on what would have been her 47th birthday. The waiting for the next step in our journey. The realization of how lucky we are to live where we live.
In the US, our friends and family to the south, are celebrating their independence and as usual it will be done with grand flair and style. We wish everyone in America a safe and happy holiday. Be ever mindful that the peace and freedom we all enjoy in this part of the world came at great costs, often in other parts of the world. We should think of them during these blessed times and do our best to do something or give something to help in the goal that they too will be able to enjoy things as we do and far too often take for granted.
And for us at home, our own celebrations past on Sunday, let us never forget those, like the recent six, who died defending our ability to do what we want when we want how we want. We may not support the war but we sure as hell must always support our oft-maligned troops. My older brother had a 20+ year career in the Armed Forces Air Force and as much as I cracked wise on him all the time (he still spouts things like "repeat that please, over"), I am mighty proud of him.
OK, not to put a damper on things. Enjoy the holiday those of you that have it. The rest of you, get back to work, or sleep or family or whatever. Tomorrow is a new day. What are you going to do with it?
Ciao.
