In February 2004, the Child Exploitation Section of the Sex Crimes Unit received information from the United States Department of Homeland Security regarding persons in Toronto who are alleged to have purchased access to child pornography web sites. The investigation in the United States involved both the child pornography web sites and their affiliated online payment companies.
The Child Exploitation Section conducted a year long investigation and as a result numerous Toronto residents have been charged with child pornography offences.
On June 2, 2005, members of the Child Exploitation Section of the Sex Crimes Unit and members of the Technological Crimes Section of the Intelligence Support Unit executed a search warrant at a Toronto residence. During the course of the search warrant a computer was seized. A laptop computer was seized later in the investigation.
